Of the plugins listed in these posts, I’ve become a big fan of the WP-SpamFree and Akismet plugins. Both are really easy to use, and both have done a great job of cutting down the spam on the blogs that I’ve tested them on. WP-SpamFree can be found and installed right from the WordPress dashboard using the Plugins menu. And Akismet is actually bundled and installed by default with the WordPress platform.
