USTREAM is a great tool to use for virtual meetings, allowing you to broadcast your meeting, and chat live with your viewers. Here’s a screencast that shows you how to login & set up video settings in USTREAM. (Addendum: At one point I mention “flash” based cameras, when I meant to say “firewire” based cameras.)

Has anyone compared Ustream vs. Livestream. Any difference?
Hey Matt! Right now we use LiveStream in the blog templates we’ve created for Campus Ministries. LiveStream works really well, and the free ProCaster software is robust. The problem? Ads! A church here was using Livestream when a Trojan ad popped up. Not exactly what they were looking for. You can get an ad-free LiveStream feed….for $350/month!! UStream’s interface is also very easy, and I really like some of the social media features. And….it’s both ad-free and free-free. In addition, UStream also supports iPhone apps for both viewing AND broadcasting from your iPhone. VERY COOL!! For that reason, we are going to be moving some of our training to Ustream.
Thanks Chris! Super helpful info.
Matt,
UStream does have ads, but it seems that they don’t show when people use the embedded player. I noticed last night that when I clicked on the middle of an embedded UStream player, it takes me to the UStream site and there are ads. But when I clicked on the play button at the bottom left corner of the embedded player, there were no ads.
Great report, Karl! I guess the idea is to embed the player and tell people to stay there. Thanks!
Thanks for the info! Just streamed our first Cru meeting of the year and had some Trojan commericals pop up every 15 mins…thankfully not too many people were watching online.
Working on a 24/7 Live Streaming site started on Intuit (humble beginnings) moving it to a wordpress format (any thoughts) Found your info quite informative. Would like to share with others of like mind.
God Bless
Stan
One other thought. Ustream’s lowest no ad buy in is $99./mo. Seems reasonable given they are a very high traffic site where you can create a following with an effective tags program.
The other alternative is a shared server with FME server for under $50/mo. (subperb.net for one) but you lose any chance of outside viewership.
Like to know your feelings.
Thanks for the time.
Stan
